For some two decades, Debabrata Biswal has worked as a senior executive in the telecom and digital transformation industry. He was the vice president and head of telecommunications for the Americas at HCL. To keep up with the happenings in his industry, Debabrata Biswal regularly attends events such as the Tele Management Forum and the Mobile World Conference.
The Mobile World Conference, now known as MWC Barcelona, is an annual trade show that brings together mobile network operators, phone manufacturers such as Samsung and Huawei, network equipment providers, technology journalists, and many more from around the world. The annual conference, held at the Fira Gran Via in Barcelona, Spain, has been attended by thousands of people each year since it launched in 1987.
During the event, attendees get to learn about the latest advancements in mobile and other progressive technologies. Leading smartphone manufacturers also use MWC to announce devices they plan to release in the year. iPhone manufacturer Apple, however, doesn’t participate in MWC because it prefers to launch its latest phones at its own event.
In 2022, over 60,000 people attended MWC, and 500,000 watched it online. The event, held from February 28 to March 3, had over 1,000 speakers, including Anne Chow, CEO, AT&T; Pekka Lundmark, president and CEO, Nokia; and Adam Selipsky, CEO, Amazon Web Services. It also had over 1,900 exhibitors and more than 1,600 international journalists. In 2023, the event will be held from February 27 to March 2.
